Gardoms Edge enclosure – the wide stony bank of the Enclosure runs for almost six hundred metres in a gentle curve to meet the vertical cliffs of the edge at either end to enclose the highpoint of the edge.

It can be followed for almost its entire length, only a short section at its southern end having been ploughed away in an encroaching field. In places it can barely be made out amongst the natural bumps and hollows of the moor. In other parts it remains a high, wide bank of large blocks of stone built onto and over the natural scatter of earthfast blocks, which litter the surface.

In parts of Gardoms Edge enclosure, longer stones have been placed vertically to form an outer facade. A number of entrances can still be identified, and it soon becomes obvious that it was not intended as a fortified site, despite the line of cliffs forming its western edge.
